The Republic of Zambia held general elections on August 12, 2021. We got our hands on the results published by The Electoral Commission of Zambia and decided to map the presidential election results! With a total of 156 constituencies, scattered across the 10 provinces, visualising the results at constituency level provides interesting insights into what has happened since the last elections five years ago, in 2016. Mapping Historical Regional Voting Patterns of Zambia Presidential Election Results

More maps! This time around, we have generated historical maps for regional presidential election results. We think this provides a better understanding of regional voting patterns over the years. For each of the presidential elections held between 1991 and 2016, we visualise the final regional (READ: provincial) outcomes and, additionally, results by electoral administrative boundaries (READ: constituencies). We finally got our hands on the most recent Shapefiles [1]. Also, a few weeks back, we got our hands on the official Electoral Commission of Zambia presidential election results [2] and did some really basic analysis. So we decided to visualise the results. Mapping the Zambia 2011 Elections Results Using Google Fusion Tables

I have been playing around with Shapefiles [1] these last couple of weeks. So I got the most recently available Zambia GDM Shapefiles [2], made a few modifications to take into account Muchinga Province and new districts, and subsequently merged the DBF file with the 2011 presidential elections results [3]. While I have been exclusively using R packages like maptools [4], I spent the last few minutes working with Google Fusion Tables [5] and came up with the interactive map below.
