[Screencasts] Installing DSpace on Windows 2003 Server

I am suppose to install a DSpace instance –on a Windows 2003 server platform– in the next couple of days and had to create a sandbox. I had no choice but to install Windows 2003 on virtualbox. I’ve created a series of screencasts that depict how one would go about installing DSpace on Windows 2003 server. Please comment if I did something I shouldn’t have done or if there are easier ways of performing certain tasks. I hope this helps someone out there.

Part #1: Prerequisite Software Components

Part #2: Installing Oracle Java JDK 6

Part #3: Installing Apache Maven 2.2.1

Part #4: Configuring Proxy Settings for Apache Maven

Part #5: Installing Apache Ant 1.8.3

Part #6: Installing PostgreSQL 9.1

Part #7: Installing Apache Tomcat 6

Part #8: Building& Installing DSpace

i install dspace on window7 if i do same process on window7 what it will install on window7 but i allready follow same process but my postgresql show a error message i send u a screen short image what should i do after that

    • That is clearly a PostgreSQL issue, and not a DSpace one. I came across this [1] article and apparently, you need to install PostgreSQL on local drive (C:) NOT the program files directory. You will have to uninstall all the PostgreSQL components you managed to set up before reinstalling though.  I hope this helps.

    • @5da4c1bd896e0f1c3d1d531276d2b1d6:disqus How did you deploy the DSpace web applications (xmlui, jspui, etc.)? Did you manually copy them to the tomcat installation folder or did you have to edit the servlet.xml file like I showed in Part#9: Deploying DSpace Web Applications [1] ?

    • @608a7b2dfc7f1cae8b03de08608f4589:disqus Yes, you follow the same procedure. The only thing you need to do is ensure that you download the appropriate pre-requisite components.

For the sake of very long term support and “openness” using open systems I suggest an installation using Ubuntu. See: http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/Dspace
